BCGA Announces Women Got Game National Tour Celebrating Gaming, Esports, and Women's History Month

Atlanta, Georgia Mar 15, 2023 (Issuewire.com) - The Black Collegiate Gaming Association (BCGA) celebrates Women's History Month with a first-of-its-kind Women Got Game (WGG) summit and esports program touring the U.S. and honoring diverse female trailblazers who have broken barriers in the gaming/esports, technology, and entertainment industries. WGG will visit three cities in 2023, including San Francisco, CA on March 24th, Dallas, TX on March 30th, and Atlanta, GA on April 15th.

Women Got Game features an all-day summit dedicated to connecting high school and collegiate women of color across the country with Black, Latina, Asian, and Native American corporate partners and leaders in the gaming/esports, technology, and entertainment industries. WGG Summit will also offer participants opportunities for internships, jobs, mentorship, and scholarships.

Activities will kick off with "Welcome to Her World," a conversation featuring the WGG Advisory Committee. Panelists include Natalie White, Vice President of the Women's National Basketball Association, Los Angeles Sparks; Verta Maloney, Co-Founder and COO of The GameHERs; DiAndria Green, Partner of Bennett Thrasher; Anastasia Fedorova of 2K.

WGG will also feature an Esports Tournament, scholarships, and prizes on Twitch playing NBA® 2K23 WNBA Edition and Valorant.

"We want to engage more women of color to channel their interest and talents towards gaming and Esports," said Keshia Walker, BCGA Founder, and Chairwoman. "Research shows women comprise 30 percent of Esports viewership but make up less than 10 percent of the gaming industry. There's a major opportunity to address this gap. The WGG Summit is long overdue. I hope that hosting it during Women's History Month inspires future trailblazers."

As the first and only African-American woman to own a collegiate Esports and gaming company, Walker, herself, is already making history.

"Black gamers and women of color gamers are growing in numbers," continues Walker. "The industry must grow and adjust to make room for this new demographic. During our National WGG Tour, we'll cover the history of women of color in gaming/esports, tech, and entertainment. We'll also have real conversations with diverse women of color, corporate executives, and successful entrepreneurs in these industries as they reflect on their careers and share insights with young female students in high school and college interested in working in the gaming industry."
